1. Get mentally prepared
Write down your goal on a notecard. Carry it with you everywhere. Read it at least twice a day, more if possible. Think about how great you'll feel when you've lost 10 pounds of ugly body fat. If you're doing intense strength training on a consistent basis, you can eat starches (e.g. breads, pasta, potatoes, etc.) on the days you do some form of strength/resistance training.
